A trip down the memory lane.......

An attempt to revive back memories with an multimedia post (i.e with pictures) :D

Having given the day off at the office, million thanks to TNEB for a full day power shut, I started to the station pretty early than required and managed to reach for the train well within the time. The excitement of this trip started as soon as we boarded the train as the travelling ticket examiner (fondly referred to as the TTR) came along with a person from the flying squad to check our identity proof. To have been the only person in the lot with the laminated ID proof than the original one, my friends made me sit in between to dodge the checker. The checking was done but the way my fellow passengers reacted once my ID proof was accepted, gave me more shock than anything that moment and I became more than sure that I was going to be pushed out of the train as they winked at me, shaked their heads towards me in acknowledgment of the fact that I had passed the test. As you rightly guessed it, all these expressions right in front of the checker who was already suspicious of my identity - the vehicle licence (and you know, never the person in the licence is similar to the one in real life). Yet with all these super moments my trip headed towards one of the most unforgettable trips..

Like in any tour, we started playing the Anthakshari with about thirty odd people sitting inside one compartment of 8 seater and as the game was dangerously heading towards the best part where one of my senior was singing "Macchana Parthingala".., the villian of our day came, the TTR singing along sarcastically Machanum vendam.. yarum vendam.. All of you get to sleep..haha.. but sleep was pretty doubtful as the mischievous gang started applying "toothpaste" moisturizers on the face and helping others to stay awake throughout.. afraid of their naughtiness and the facial they might have to wake up with..

Managing to sleep in between the cute plays of the goons with our hoods as covers, woke up to a chill morning at Mysore to head to our tour spot.. WAYANAD..

GINGER GIRL :p

As much as there was excitement in the air, we were as hungry with all the chatting and singing all night long. Heading towards the Hotel Mint Flower and post freshening up and breakfast (poor sambar :P) we were charged up to see the first destination spot. The Suchipara Waterfalls. All of us brisk and excited. Walking downhill awhile singing the "Ginger Girl" song we reached to the waterfalls. The picturesque venue was enthralling to the eyes. The water flowing from the heights of the mountain and urging us to take a closer step towards and sprinkle water pallets on our enticed faces. The theme set and the energy was high.. with the mandatory pics taken at the spot, we scrambled back into the 46 seater volvo bus and continued with our Macchana parthingala song.. though now on a different form of anthakshari, singing all songs starting with the letter Ma...

As we sang along on our way to the Lakkadi view point, we stopped awhile to gaze at the famous Chain Tree. Tree known for its ghost stories and a well comfortable spot for the boys to tease and scare us, all the way back till we reached the scenic Lakkadi view point. A point from where we could see the wonders of nature merged with the artistic carving of the roads by mankind over the vast mountain stretch.

It was not called without truth as Pookad lake. The lake filled with pink lillies and just as beautiful as we were (:P). Clustering into tiny groups of 8, we swayed with the soft waves of the lake amongst the enticing scent for a encapsulating boating experience. It was the time when we literally sat back and rowed through the way.

The energy gained during the boating was saved up for the joyous climb towards the Banasura Sagar Dam. There was a straight roadway to reach but we opted to climb through the slides and steps to gape at the boundless water stretch. With life jackets on, another speed boat ride was on. A place truly well maintained for a tourist attraction, also offering the "swing with the nature". I realised, if you take 1% care of nature it gives us back manifold varieties of perks.

The ultimate journey of our trip was the climb to the Chembra Peak. Bags packed with water, energy drinks, biscuits, orange mittais and what not. Everyone was at par at the start. As we climbed up.. the gangs naturally split into the enthusiastic ones, the determined ones, the relaxed ones. A huge roar erupted as we reached the peak with the heart lake. But the roar persisted only for a while as we learnt that the trip to the heart lake was just halfway to the actual peak (eye rolling). As we saw one another to proceed, the determined lot alone were hellbent and marched forward to reach the real peak as the others lazed around. A few may have dropped in the middle, a few may have faltered on the way down but I think the trek was a chance to internalize and showcase our levels of grit and determination.

The first steps on trek

A birds eye view of our uphill journey

The halfway mark - Heart lake

The trek exhausted us and the next day journey to our final destination place aptly looked like a rescue operation [below pic - like a rescue opertion and may even ring us the song of 'vidai kodu engal nade' from kannathil muthamittal movie]. Yet did we even know then that our final day of the tour would be filled with crossing lakes and rivers just like the hero, heroines do.. I lived a movie that day.. the Kuruva Island.. the happiness of jumping into the waters.. the negative incident of photo shopping by the localites .. the heroism of our Suri boys.. well I could say the day had its own share of romance with nature, comedy tracks within the groups, the fight scenes and of course the sentiment that the trip was marching towards closure.. a wholesome entertainer..

Its a solid 5 years now.. yet I can clearly remember the uphill journey and the ultimate happiness it gave us all. I should say.. as I scrolled through the pics to find most apt ones here.. I went back and travelled through each of those days.. though Im sure I couldn't do complete justice to this post as there were so many more incidents like the bonfire dances, the jeep ride to the peak, the story of how natural mountain water quenched our thirsts.. I could keep adding on to this already lengthy post.. what a memory it is.. I do miss the innocence that was there.. but life does move on...

Like any class has, there were groups and sub-groups in this entire journey.. I might not know each of their inside stories but all I know is.. as I write this post,.. it brought back the solid memories that we had created 5 years back in December 2012 and I'm sure that each one who reads this can relate to their amazing story of togetherness, friendship and fun..

A pic with the people to remember....

In reminiscence with the past,
Divya Venkatesan
