A Story of a Lone Hero

I lazily opened my eyes to the beautiful dawn of one fine winter morning expecting my day
to be as great as ever, but what i witnessed was a scene of scare.

A puff of white cloud passed by. .it became dark suddenly. was it a cloud ? ? Oh.h its a
huge ball of smoke. My wooden apartments' roof wore a huge crack. What had happened .
I hurried myself out of the bed and peeped outside the window. The narrow street out looked
deserted and haunted. I quickly moved out of the house and was on the streets.

I looked out for my neighbors. I yelled for company, but my voice??
Oh ! I couldn't hear it. I lost my voice. There was none to my eyesight I could call for help.
I went back into my half blown home and scurried over my belongings to find my arm gun. .

What had happened in one night. .?

I remember the last night very clearly how I felt that that was the most happiest day of my life.
Was that going to be my last happiest day after-all.
I am an army man who left home to serve for the country . I don't regret any day for leaving
my village as i believe the whole country is one large village, expect for people speaking different
languages.

Last night we caught the three humans who were so inhumane in their actions trying to enter
our beloved motherland with ideas of creating massacre. The army at the border were alerted
through some sources and we captured the inhumane human creatures. We celebrated .
We here at the border take turns to guard. My team were to return to our base camp today. .
My friends at army were thrilled . .So was I . .

We were to be given a month long break to visit our villages and return back.
That evening each one planned for their break which was to start the next day(today) , started
calling their families to inform that they will arrive home.

I did the same . .
I had spoken with my parents after a month or so. I spoke with my sister whose marriage I had
witnessed through the negative images and video recordings. I was excited to see my family after
a gap of 5 years.

Everyone in our team at the border started celebrating. We pinched each other to confirm if it was
really true that we were going home. Party arrangements were made. .
Sandwiches, variety rice, chicken, meat, chocolates, ice cream, juices of all sorts that we could
imagine, and what not?.  We partied, cut cake for the victory of catching the most wanted and
as in any party applied cake moisturizer on the smiling faces, splashed tomato ketchup. .
It became dirty, did anyone bother ? We were going home :-)
oh. . it really was a happy night

What had happened to my colleagues, my friends at the camp? What had come of them ?
I could not see anyone. I got nasty thoughts due to the silence. I prayed they didn't turn true.

My voice cracked finally. I started calling names. I moved cautiously into my neighboring
wooden tent to find my friend, he was no where. A hand was lying with blood spurted nearby. .
Oh.. my. .!! How could this have happened. I rushed to the other tents. I witnessed more horrible
scenes of my buddies badly bruised parts lying separately. Some of them were hit straight on their
heads.

How was i alone left. I couldn't understand. I looked around to see of there was any human
presence. nah..!! It looked very silent. How did i survive? I re-winded my thoughts to the last night.
I was the sole victim of the party last night. I was given birthday bumps, covering me in blanket
so that i wont be able to know who was beating me up. I was ordered to have my ears closed
with ear guards which were usually used during war (to avoid hearing failure due to high level noise)
rest of the day. My friends splashed ketchup over me and we were playing with the toy gun that
my friend had lovingly purchased for his 4 year son. The bullet from the gun would look so real,
but its made of spring wire.

I had the toy bullet on me and the tomato ketchup right near that bullet. It looked so real like a bullet
had cut across my chest and my ears were covered.
I hastily removed the ear guards which had prevented me from helping my comrades out of trouble..

Oh my god !! Why should it have happened so? I was left alive. I didn't know whether the bullet, the
ketchup was a BLESSING in DISGUISE or not .

My body survived, but my heart wails at the death of my comrades. How each one was thrilled to
get back home? TEARS..

I shivered as i saw my fellow comrades' frozen stares. I couldn't understand the science of nature.
We caught 3 inhumane beings and in return 13 human were killed. Will the world change any day??
Why violence? ?

I couldn't tolerate the scene. I gathered strength and courage to send a message to the base camp
about the bad news. I managed to call the chief.
My voice choked. .
I. .
I . . had lost my comrades. .
